Two are off to Belgium

Belgium will be the destination later this year for two young members of St. Joseph’s Brass Band after they secured places with the European Youth Brass Band.

Tenor Horn player Amanda McGinley and Cornet player Darren Barr successfully auditioned last week and will be the only Northern Ireland representatives taking part in a number of concerts in Belgium. Their concerts will be held during the week of the prestigious European Brass Band Championships, April 26th to May 3rd.

Amanda and Darren are elated with their success and are looking forward to the honour of representing Northern Ireland’s brass musicians in Belgium and to meeting, and playing with, other young musicians from various parts of Europe.

The North of Ireland Band Association and the Brass Band League will be covering their travelling expenses and the accommodation and hospitality costs will be met by the hosting association.

Naturally, their own band, St. Joseph’s, is very pleased with their selection. Speaking on behalf of all the members, Band Secretary, Paddy McGranaghan congratulated Amanda and Darren on their success.

“This will be a great occasion for both and their selection is a recognition of their talent and hard work. We hope they have a great time playing in the European brass Band, making new friends and gain valuable playing experience. We know they will be great representatives for all the members of the Northern Ireland Brass Band community.” Paddy Added.
